We are currently feeling the need for a spirituality that no longer hides our contemplatives in comfortable monasteries, but instead recognizes that we are all called to be mystics and prophets at once. This new spirituality integrates contemplation with activism and prophetic witness on behalf of justice and compassion, deals with the transformation of the whole-person, integrates spiritual practices from various traditions and emphasizes the need for intergenerational collaboration and wisdom. Join us for this inspiring retreat with an intergenerational duo—renowned theologian, activist and visionary Matthew Fox and spiritual activist Adam Bucko—and explore the directions the earth is asking us to embark on today. We will explore intergenerational wisdom, activism as a form of contemplation, vocation as a spiritual practice and practices in spiritual democracy while sharing in small groups. We will also share in some contemplative prayer and in a survey on spirituality that young people interviewed for Adam and Matthew’s new book, Occupy Spirituality, also took. We will use inspiration from our mystical ancestors still eager to share with us including Eckhart, Hildegard, Dorothy Day, Howard Thurman and courageous voices from today’s Occupy Generation.
